In-patient Services:
JCDC is one of the three National Resource / Referral Centres, for the treatment and rehabilitation of the physically disabled children, mainly those afflicted with Cerebral Palsy ages 0-14 years who reside in the northern and central parts of the country. Services are offered per year to 200-220 children from the West Bank and to 80-100 children from East Jerusalem. The Rehabilitation Department is led by our Medical Director, Dr. Waddah Malhis who is a Consultant at Rehabilitation.
Children with special needs are referred by the Community Based Rehabilitation workers (CBR) in the various areas of the West Bank, either through the Intermediate Level Services or straight to JCDC. All in-patients are covered by a health insurance plan through the Palestinian Ministry of Health or United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) covering only cost of rehabilitation treatments at the physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapy units. The provision of orthotic / prosthetic devices fabricated at our Orthopedic Manufacturing Unit, and technical aids are included in the coverage. Accompanied by the mother, every child is admitted for a period of 1-3 months to be discharged and sent back later to be integrated in his/her own community, making use of the services available there, along with a home program designed specifically according to the child's needs and can be implemented by the mother.
Along with the comprehensive program devised for the child, every mother is educated and trained through The Mothers' Empowerment Program to become a partner in the rehabilitation process of her child with the aim of creating a local community network of empowered mothers.
Outpatient Services
The Out-patient physiotherapy Unit renders services to a clientele of different age groups, suffering from a variety of physical ailments. Most clients are from East Jerusalem areas, and are covered by Israeli health insurance plan (Sick Funds). Signed contracts with Leumit and Clalit allow clients to be referred to our Centre to receive treatments that are fully covered through a referral system. We keep abreast of the advances in physiotherapy by continuously upgrading the skills and qualifications of the therapists on staff, through our Continued Education Program. Also, the latest physiotherapy equipment is used and continuously updated to treat clients. Closely monitored procedures, through the quality management system are available to better cater for our clients. On average, a total number of 500-550 clients per year are treated at the unit.
Vocational Training:
A total of (21) young adults with special needs, males and females, ages (18+) years participate as trainees at the vocational Training sheltered Workshop. These are referred from the Ministry of Social Welfare with the aim of making them active members in their communities, thus supporting our overall goal of total inclusion.
